15-Second Review: Sevva

Restaurant: Sevva, Prince's Building
Type of food: fusion
Rating: ** (2 out of 5)

Socialite Bonnie Gokson has proven herself to be more than just a bored tai tai who graces the society pages in every issue of the Hong Kong Tatler. She seems to actually possess some talent. For many years, her restaurant/bar Sevva has been the default Thursday night hangout for the Central business crowd. Perhaps that's why it manages to charge $165 for a drink and serve mediocre food at equally exorbitant prices. Sevva is the kind of place where the waitress rolls her eyes at you when you ask for a different table, pours less than a half glass when you order wine, and pretends she hadn't heard you when you asks for pretty much anything. So let me sum it up for you in a few words: great decor, good vibes, dull food, horrendous service, and a huge ripoff.

  4. I am not the #1 fan of this place either. The word 'pretentious' is overused these days but in this case it is very apt.
